The first thing that comes into my mind is film. The entire film industry is either meant to persuade, inform or entertain the audience. No wonder the entertainment industry is one of the most popular streams of work, since 13% of Americans alone watch at least one movie a month.
However, with the growing diversification of the world audience, there are other streams of entertainment, like stand-up comedy, TED and TEDx Conferences, Panels and TV series. Not only do these provide people with different forms of entertainment, but they also provide people with more opportunities to be discovered and share their own stories.
Part of what I do on this blog (besides sharing ideas) is to entertain people in some way. It could be by making a nasty joke or giving you extremely staggering statistics about the number of atoms in an apple (13200000000000000000000000) or tell you the story of someone you need to know. As long as I have your attention and you want more, I am entertaining you.
Entertainment is all about the stories you tell, and the memories you make because of them.
I would rather entertain and hope that people learnt something than educate people and hope they were entertained. – Walt Disney
