Why I Don’t Feel Like Writing Right Now (and what i could do to change)

  1. In my humble opinion, a writer NEEDS to write what they feel compelled to put on paper. When we start to let ourselves change our stories, blogs, etc, in order to try and write what we think other people want to hear, we lose a little piece of our souls in the process. I spent so many years editing my first novel because I was constantly trying to guess what an editor/publisher would want to read. It almost destroyed my story. It stopped being my story and became someone else’s. That’s why I finally self-published my novel on Amazon. I didn’t have to let someone pick my story apart and make it theirs before publishing. I realize as writers, we are supposed to open ourselves up to constructive criticism in order to become better writers. But as someone who battles high anxiety, I let other people pick my writing apart for so long I almost quit. In order to overcome it, I decided that for now, I am going to write what I want to write. People can love or hate it. They can judge my content, call me an amateur, whatever. But my writing will be my writing. It’s a piece of my soul and no one should be allowed to pick apart my soul. Be true to yourself. Be true to your writing. Do these things and you won’t look back and feel as though you compromised yourself along the way. Best of luck to you!
