Stop acting.

I’m almost in high school, which means all my friends(including myself) do indulge in humble bragging. But sometimes, people take it too far. To the point of bragging about your haters(and lovers) and making a big deal about what people think of them and their life. And as teenagers, we feed on gossip and pretentious behaviour. This bugs me. It made me ask:

Why do people act like their lives are great and full of unprecedented events and perfect and everything they asked for, when it obviously isn’t? What joy do they get in pretending like their life is better than others?

Why couldn’t they just actually create the lives they dreamed of?

It takes a split second and a fickle mind to be all talk about your life and your dreams. It takes courage and acceptance to actually make progress towards your goal. Pretentious people aren’t perfect. Their sensation of perfection acts as validation for their actions.

One thing I’ve learnt in my (short) life is that if there’s one sure way to live your dreams, it’s to be them.

Don’t waste your time wishing to be something. Your time is short. So do what you want. And be nice to people on the way.

Don’t be afraid of losing people. Be afraid of losing yourself by trying to please everyone around you.


How to build friendships

  • BE KIND. This is no-brainer. Yet many people forget that what you give, you get back. No one’s gonna be around you if you treat them like dirt and take them for granted. So when you start a friendship, make some ground rules from both sides and stick to them. Be good and they’ll treat you the same way.
  • BE YOURSELF. A friendship built on lies is bound to fall apart. Be authentic and live with integrity. Don’t try to be the best version you picture of yourself. Be the most real version of yourself. If your true identity drives certain people away, realise that they wouldn’t be valuable additions to your life. Shine your light as bright as you can. So that the right people will find you.
  • LISTEN. SMILE. AGREE. If you have a friend you want to keep, smiling is honestly the best way to keep the friendship going. Engage in conversations that fascinate both you and your friends. Give them your insights. Take theirs. Make your discussions as colourful, diverse and intriguing as possible. Collaborate. Contribute. Connect.
  • SHARING IS CARING. Don’t hold back when it comes to sharing ideas. Ideas are the single most important tool of connection and influence in any sort of relationship. They’re what define or destroy the friendship. So share ideas of love, growth and positivity with your friends and the world.
  • UNDERSTAND. Understand that circumstances change like the seasons, and with it, so do people. It’s not your fault if someone who once was your friend doesn’t seem to be the same around you anymore. But it’s not theirs either. So don’t blame anyone. Be grateful for the friendship when it lasted, and realise that it has ended for the better. Accept it, let go and move on.

Rats, Spirals and Cheese

What is the multiverse? How many dimensions exist? Will we ever find aliens? Are we all just atoms in a larger universe?These were the questions my friends and I attempted to answer in today’s lunch break. It all started with the question of how the universe would have come into existence if the Big Bang Theory wasn’t true. Soon we were wondering what was outside the universe, if the universe was the only thing there was. It made me think: how do you perceive or make sense of something that is simply beyond human comprehension? Belief. The answer is belief. The whole point of putting the unimaginable into the hands of some higher being is to simplify the things that are out of reach of human understanding. But we still weren’t content. My friend wanted a reason for why the universe is the way it is and why there could be infinite dimensions. Everything’s gotta have a reason, right? No. Not everything. Until we know for sure, we really wouldn’t have a solid reason for why the universe behaves the way it behaves. We need to find a reason. We need an answer. Imagine a spiral maze. An endless spiral maze. The entire human race is a rat in the maze, looking the best piece of cheese in universal existence. Cheese couldn’t get better than this. And we’re desperate to find it. We’re constantly going round and round in circles in the hopes of finding this cheese. And the spiral is infinite and never-ending. So is our search for the elusive cheese. I’m not saying we’ll never find the cheese. With rapid technological advances, we might in the near future. But while we’re all searching frantically for the cheese, we seem to miss all the pizza and milk and chocolate along the way. They’re great too, even if they’re not ultimate cheese. We’re all just just rats, looking for our own cheese. We are going to while away our existence looking for this cheese. So we might as well enjoy the journey.

The Power of Music

Tbh I could write a 3000 word essay about this.

We’ve all been in that one extremely stressful and disturbing situation where all you wanted to do was to curl up into a bundle of clothes and while away our existence in that position. And if you’re anything like me, you rushed to the aid of music.

Oh, sweet music, reassuring me that my life is okay. I really do believe you. Very few people don’t.

The whole process of putting two egg/spherical shaped rubber instruments inside the crevices of your ears and using them to transmit vibrations from your phone might seem a bit absurd to a few people. But to me and the majority of people on this planet, music is their biggest source of peace and relaxation.

Whether it’s pop or rock or RnB or classical, music is a means of escaping or augmenting reality.

I mean, sure, music is just patterned sound. Just the compression and relaxation of particles in the air. Down to the basics, there is nothing about music that makes it different from other art forms like dance or drawing.

What’s special about music is that it gives them a chance to say what they want to say, and how they feel. It gives people a voice. And when you have a voice, you have the power to influence millions.

Time Management

  1. PLAN IN ADVANCE. Before you start your work, be sure to lay out everything you want to accomplish. don’t leave out anything. Allot some time for every task and write them down like a timetable.
  2. ALWAYS ADD BUFFER-TIME. You never know if something could go against your will while you’re husting. So always put 5 or 10 minutes of free time between every individual task. This ensures that you won’t fall behind according to your timetable.
  3. GIVE YOURSELF BREAKS. Hey, we all need a break every once in a while!
  4. KILL DISTRACTIONS RUTHLESSLY. Distractions are those things that you love but don’t love you back. The first step is to know what exactly these distractions are in your life. This could be your Instagram page, YouTube, TV, or a novel. Once you are aware of what it is that’s holding you back, remove fiercely.
  5. STAY FOCUSED. Once you’ve removed your physical distractions, you need to train your brain to be less reactive to things and develop tunnel vision. Imagine yourself having finished your task at hand. Think of what you feel when you’ve accomplished your goal. Let this be your drive to stay focused and slay your task with maximum efficiency.

  7. IT’S NOT A WAR. Relax.

Remember that what you’re doing will NOT make or break you. Begin every day with the goal to slay, and do everything in your power to create the day you imagined. If something goes wrong, or you don’t do as much as you expected, tell yourself that its okay. There always is tomorrow.

10 ways to be happy and in the moment

  1. BREATHE. This is the best way to detox and live in the present moment. This could be in the form of meditation, taking a shower, or walking your dog. This lets you pause for a moment and check in on yourself.
  2. WRITE. Maintaining a daily journal (or blog) helps you address all that went right or wrong in your day. Once you write something in a journal, you don’t need to think about it anymore.
  3. DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE. If you’re feeling down, maybe you haven’t done something you enjoy for a long time. Every day, take some time pursuing your hobbies and passions.
  4. TALK TO FRIENDS. Ring your best friend up and meet them over the weekend. Talk about the things that make your heart sing. Get all the fresh gossip you possibly can. What you’re doing doesn’t matter as much as who you’re doing it with.
  5. TRY SOMETHING NEW. Watch a different news channel in the morning. Wear a different hair tie to school. Take a new route to the office. Whatever it is, take your time to embrace the new sensation you get by doing something new.
  6. GO FOR A RUN. Exercise is scientifically proven to reduce depression and anxiety. And it helps get rid of those sushi rolls under your shirt. So why not run a mile in the morning? You’ll get to see the sunrise too.
  7. SLEEP. Having problems with your day? Sleep on it. It lets you slow down for a while and not consciously do anything. so if you’re not feeling happy, a nap is completely fine.
  8. WATCH A MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO. It doesn’t need to be just motivational. Anything that makes you inspired to do better is great. Binge.
  9. CLEAN YOUR HOUSE. It’ll get your mind off of anything that’s bugging you, and you’ll make your bed ready for a good night’s sleep.
  10. SMILE! Just do it.

How to get ideas

We all go through the feeling of creative depression at some point in our lives. For me, it’s close to my school finals. We just get mysteriously deprived of our ability to generate legible, if not great, ideas.

So here are some ways to get your creative juices flowing again:

  1. HAVE FUN. If there’s one sure-fire way to make ideas, it’s by being positive about it and not pressure yourself.
  2. EMBRACE FAILURE. If you want to make sure you’ve done something to your best, you need to go as far as you can. And eventually, you’ll crash. And that’s okay. Revel in your failures.
  3. EXPOSE YOURSELF. Get yourself as many diverse inputs in your life as you can. Force yourself to read a book every week. Listen to a science podcast every day. Run a blog. Create the most vibrant life for yourself as you possibly can.
  4. DO IT DIFFERENT. If you normally brush with your right hand use your left hand or a while. Pick a random book from your local library. Change your bedsheets. And your thinking.
  5. STAY TRUE. Nothing is better than an idea driven by passion. So if you’re finding it hard to create ideas, take a deep breath, and do something you love, like writing a poem, or playing the guitar.

You’re not good enough.

Over the last 2 days, I’ve been really busy a packing up all my stuff, ready to move into a new house. Since I was exhausted from all the work, I decided against doing any school homework. I just slept, ate, watched YouTube videos, and slept again. Today morning, I woke up feeling ridiculously apprehensive about my broken work schedule and my lack of interest in academics and life in general. I felt like if I don’t constantly do something related to school work, I would become an utter failure. I felt like I’m not enough.

I mean, sure, there are things I’m good at. Like writing. Speaking. And singing. And the guitar and math. And then there’s things I’m absolutely horrible at. Like kicking a ball straight. Or finding and keeping things. Or remembering anything more than my first name. Or drawing. Or dancing. I mean, I would rather drown in a pool of piranhas than doing those(this is clearly an exaggeration.).

We’re all good at certain things and ridiculously terrible at other things. And that’s quite frankly the balance of human nature. The only we can do is continue to get better at the things we’re already good at and learn from others.

But we have to make the first move of trying. Make the commitment to learn. It’s okay to make mistakes and act like a fool, if it’s means it gets you closer to being good at something. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Do what you have to do to be good enough.

Because most of the times, enough is, well, more than enough.



So last night I decided to go out into my balcony and just stare into the dark beyond. I kept looking and looking and then I saw the first star I had seen in days. And then another. And then ten more. I wondered. Wondered what it would be like if each one had its own solar system, with its own signs of life. I thought, how mysterious and suffocating it felt to be the only living species we knew about. I felt one of them, whose light was just reaching us, blow up into a supernova and leave behind nothing but a tiny, infinitesimal speck in this vast, indifferent universe. And possibly multiverse.

When I look up the pitch black sky at night, dotted with stars older than human mankind, I almost feel like I’m standing on the edge of the atmosphere and I can see the darkness of the universe, which gives me immense comfort. And even though all we’d be able to see is pitch black nothingness, the realisation that this nothingness will go on forever reassures me. No matter how far you look. Now matter how many lights you put up. No matter how many wars we fight, how many worlds we put out of existence, no matter how many species crumble and fade away into oblivion, the dark will be, and the stars will continue to be beautiful till the end of this universe’s time. And then the start of another.

I used to ask myself why I loved the night so much.

Why do we study?

If you’re anything like a typical 21st-century kid, you study for one of the following reasons:

  1. you have to (you’re a student)
  2. your parents make you
  3. you just absolutely love studying

And if you fall into the third category, then you and I can be besties (yay!) and while away time discussing the benefits and side effects of studying. The benefits would be that not only do we increase our focus and mental capacity, but we also develop the habit of wanting to know stuff. The only major side effect of this would be that we don’t pay attention to anything which doesn’t stimulate our brains in a stunning manner (I’m looking at you, family dinners).

The main reason we study is for educational purposes. You want to get into Harvard and invent something dope, you’ll have to study. You want to know how the brain works, you’ll have to study about it. You want to change the world, you’ll have to study about how the world functions.

But the most important reason is really to outsmart the lies in the present society. In our world today, almost everyone is constantly trying to mess things up. Men and women are being beaten. Shit on. Kids are shamed. This is the new age holocaust. 24 hours a day, for the rest of our lives, ‘the powers that be’ are dumbing us to DEATH. So, to defend ourselves and fight against assimilating this process into our brains, we must learn to study and read. to stimulate our own imagination. To cultivate our own consciousness. Our own beliefs.

We need to study to defend and preserve our own minds.
